The ABI welcomes four new appointments to its Board.
Laura Mason, CEO, Retail, L&G is confirmed as a Board member after the firm joined ABI membership earlier this year.
Chris Rash, CEO, AIG UK, Dominic Veney, Interim CEO, Pension Insurance Corporation and Richard Washington, CEO, Bupa UK Insurance have been appointed to take existing seats.
The ABI Board has oversight of any major cross-cutting political, regulatory or consumer issue and leads sector-wide strategic discussions to help shape the ABI’s priorities and business plan.
Biographies
Laura Mason
Laura Mason was appointed Chief Executive Officer, Retail on 2 December 2024.
As well as heading up Retail, Laura sits on L&G’s Group Management Committee and is CEO of one of the Group’s primary operating subsidiary companies, Legal and General Assurance Society Limited (LGAS). She also holds board roles for L&G’s real estate partnership with Oxford University. Before taking up her current role in Retail, Laura led L&G’s Retirement Institutional, Capital and most recently its Private Markets businesses, serving as CEO for each of them between 2018 and 2024.
Her L&G career began in 2011 with an ALM manager role in the annuities business. That led to a move to help set up L&G’s Capital business, first as its Direct Investments Director and then in 2017 as its MD. During her time there, Laura initiated and drove investment in and support for the regeneration of Cardiff’s Central Square. Improving our national infrastructure, supporting our transition to a greener future and growing our innovation economy are strong personal ambitions for her.
Laura’s financial services career began with eight years consulting for major UK life insurers at Towers Perrin (now Towers Watson). She’s a qualified actuary and has a PhD in Engineering Science (Neural Networks and Signal Processing), and a First-Class Honours Degree in Engineering Science, both from the University of Oxford.
Chris Rash
Chris Rash is Chief Executive Officer and a Director of AIG International Group UK (AIG UK).
A seasoned executive with extensive international leadership experience in insurance and finance, Chris was previously Chief Executive Officer of Talbot Underwriting Ltd., an AIG company, operating within the Lloyd's Insurance Market through Syndicates 1183, 2019, 2478 and 2479. He was also a member of the Talbot Board.
Prior to joining Talbot, Chris worked for the StarStone Group, where he was interim Group Chief Executive Officer, having previously served as Chief Executive Officer of International and Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer. Formerly, he was Group Chief Financial Officer for MS Amlin and previously served as Commercial Director and Chief Financial Officer at the National House Building Corporation. Prior to that, he worked at the RSA Group as Group Chief Accountant and in various regional Chief Financial Officer roles.
Chris is an ACA qualified Chartered Accountant and also serves as a Board Member at the London Market Group.
Dominic Veney
Dom is Interim Chief Executive Officer and a Director of Pension Insurance Corporation plc, as well as Interim Chief Executive Officer and a Director of PIC’s parent company, Pension Insurance Corporation Group Limited.
Dom is responsible for leading PIC’s management team in carrying out the company’s strategy. He joined PIC as Chief Actuary in 2017 and was appointed Chief Financial Officer in December 2021. Dom has a particular interest in the creation of social value through housing and infrastructure development, and chairs the Social Value Commission.
Richard Washington
Richard is the CEO of Bupa UK Insurance and is an experienced leader in financial services: he joined Bupa in 2018 as Product and Proposition Director for Bupa UK Insurance, becoming General Manager for Bupa UK Insurance’s Consumer division from 2021 to 2024 and more recently, Medical and Healthcare Director.
Previous to Bupa, he held senior roles at Lloyds Banking Group and NatWest.
